the art of contemporary
woodturning and sculpture
Influenced strongly by nature and her surroundings Belle conveys this in all her work.
“There are many strong and powerful forms to be found in nature, which I try to capture with a sense of timelessness within all my designs.
I try to recognise and emulate the beauty of natural forms and their textures and colours createdby the process of natural weathering. The power created in a piece can be expressed by simple design without a need to overdecorate - in the same way that nature deals with its own palate.”
- Belle uses a V.B. lathe for all her wood turning. A smaller lathe is used for inserts, and on smaller scale work
- Hand carving is used on the wood and where necessary an electric grinder or chainsaw may be used.
- Precious metals including Silver are used in the inserts, and in some cases small amounts of exotic timber (such as Purpleheart and Ebony) is used for its rich colour
- Most work is created predominantly from native wood seasoned at source or by the designer
